V&A Jazz & World Music Series postcard illustrations

I was just looking back at some old work; throughout 2012 and 2013 I was asked by the V&A to illustrate the promotional material for their Jazz & World Music monthly event series. Here are some photos from Jo Glover who art directed the job. You can find more from this series in my portfolio.

Port of Oulu illustration for Destia Magazine

A commission from Dialogi in Finland for the Finnish infrastructure customer magazine, Destia. It is an illustration to go with a feature on Port of Oulu located at the mouth of Oulujoki river, which is suffering from a lack of space for modern cargo ships & needs to be expanded. The client wanted the illustration to have a vintage travel-poster feel, and fade out to the same yellow which the rest of the feature was to be printed on.

I Decided To Leave dir. Daniel Britt

I DECIDED TO LEAVE from Dan Britt on Vimeo.

I know I tweeted about this last week, but I really do love it, so here it is again. 'I Decided To Leave' is directed by Daniel Britt with sound design by my pal Oswald Skillbard and voiceover by Tim Key, who I saw once doing stand-up at Notting Hill Arts Club and laughed at very much.

And one more for today, a simple map of Windermere in The Lake District for LDHP who have a permanent exhibition at the Windermere Libray and who wanted to show where it was located in relation to the main roads and railway station.

HERE Newspaper by Shelter - Spring / Summer 2014

Illustrations from a little job i did recently for homeless charity Shelter. Cover illustration by the talented Hannah Waldron.

They accompanied an article about new 'towns', communities being built from the ground up to solve the UK's lack of housing. Each town has a particular focus, such as greener living and more cycle paths, or community-centred architecture, with access to shared outdoor spaces and community healthcare. This sort of advance planning which is driven by a frightening idealism often gives me the creeps, as I don't know how I feel about places being built for people overnight, rather than by themselves, over time. So I chose to focus on the uniformity of the street signage - it's could be anywhere, but also nowhere. And perhaps like the pop-up towns, it's definitely telling you what to do.

Byron Hamburgers in Exeter

Last week I went to Exeter to check out the signage I illustrated which is up now on the hoarding at Byron Hamburgers. A great little project I was proud to be part of, commissioned by Charlie Smith Design.

Latvian Childrens Films

...And my favourite about a hedgehog who goes to visit a friend & gets lost in the fog...

My friend Maija sent me some Latvian children's animations to watch and here are a few which I have been enjoying this week.
